Job Description
Our client, a leading UK main contractor, are looking for an experienced and motivated Site Engineer to join their delivery team, supporting the successful execution of projects across their Civils and Infrastructure Sector.
Reporting to the Site Agent / Project Manager, the successful candidate will take responsibility for the technical delivery of works on site, ensuring activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with programme, specifications, and quality standards.
The Site Engineer will play a key role in setting out, quality control, and site coordination, working closely with Site Agents, Senior Engineers, Supervisors, subcontractors, commercial teams, HSEQ department, the client, and design stakeholders.
From project handover through to completion, the Site Engineer will support effective collaboration across all parties, ensuring accurate delivery of works while promoting company values, behaviours, and culture throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Job Roles and Responsibilities
- Minimum HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience (Degree preferred)
- CSCS Card (relevant level)
- EUSR Cat 1 & 2
- Confined Spaces
- Temporary Works Supervisor
- Full clean driving licence
- Computer literate with proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications
- Good understanding of civil engineering and construction methods
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical information
- Knowledge of setting out techniques and surveying equipment
- Understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental legislation
- Experience working on infrastructure projects (ideally highways, earthworks, S278 or similar)
- Experience working with developers, local authorities, or National Highways advantageous
- Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and manage workload under pressure
Skills/Experience
- Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with Health, Safety & Environmental legislation, company procedures, and best practice
- Support and comply with HSEQ requirements, contributing to safe systems of work
- Assist in the preparation, implementation and communication of RAMS
- Inputs into site safety, ensuring works are carried out safely and hazards are identified
- Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions
- Production and communication of permits to work
- Ensure works are carried out in accordance with drawings, specifications, and contract requirements
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures in line with company systems
- Support the production and implementation of Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
- Carry out and record site quality inspections and checks
- Monitor works to ensure quality standards are achieved and defects minimised
- Carry out accurate setting out and surveying of works
- Establish and maintain site control points and benchmarks
- Manage surveying and engineering equipment including calibration checks
- Liaise with design teams to resolve technical queries (RFIs)
- Interpret and provide technical guidance on drawings and specifications
- Support the Site Agent, Sub-Agent and Senior Engineer in managing site activities and coordinating subcontractors
- Work collaboratively with site teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders
- Ensure effective communication across the project team
- Inputs into and attendance at site meetings, including progress and coordination meetings
- Inputs into planning and sequencing of works, including short-term lookahead programmes
- Monitor progress of works against programme and report issues
- Assist in ensuring resources (labour, plant, materials) are available as required
- Assist with take-offs, material ordering, and reconciliation of quantities
- Maintain accurate site records including daily diaries, inspections, and as-built information
- Support preparation of handover documentation
- Support identification and reporting of variations, delays, and risks
- Assist in the implementation of project documentation including Project Plans, RAMS, ITPs, and Waste Management Plans
- Ensure compliance with company management systems and procedures
- Contribute to continuous improvement and efficient site processes
