My client, a leading UK main contractor, are looking for a Head of HSEQ.

As a Head of HSEQ it is expected that all deliverables as listed are achieved to the highest standard in a timely manner. This includes where schemes, initiative’s, tasks etc. are directly assigned to you.

In addition to this you shall take all reasonable steps to monitor output and support HSEQ Managers in achieving their own deliverables specifically where relating to schemes you have been allocated as the Head of HSEQ.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain familiarisation with all HSEQ prescribed working practices and standards, additionally changes in legislation, guidance, codes of practice etc.
• In respect of all deliverables taking a lead by example approach with HSEQ Managers i.e. delivering to standard of ‘what good looks like’.
• General Inspections carried out to a high standard and in a manner that reflects compliance on the schemes in which you have been allocated as required (minimum of 1 a month on each allocated scheme). ‍
• Monitoring close outs on General Inspections on schemes you have been allocated as Head of HSEQ and prompting those directly responsible where action is required.
• Ensure that functions such as project HSEQ planning meeting, forward planning meetings are carried out in a manner that best serves the integrity and outputs of the requirement. Monitoring the quality of these where they are carried out by HSEQ Managers on schemes you have been allocated as Head of HSEQ
• Assist the planning and development of safe systems of work in conjunction with project teams and supply chain particularly in relation to high risk works and/or unique operations.
• Actively promote and lead by example with an attitude of never walking by issues.
• Ensure incidents, accidents, observations etc. are effectively reported onto the Info-tracker system.
• Escalate significant incidents, issues, trends to senior staff associated with scheme as required.
• All info tracker entries to be closed out in a timely manner, close out process to be monitored on allocated schemes through to full closure.
• Engage and support compliance with client specific reporting requirements.
• Proactively engage with supply chain members you have been allocated as point of contact to.
• Interact with supply chain in an effective manner where issues or improvements are required.
• Carry out incident/ accident investigations as required, findings to be formulated within reports in a timely and professional manner.
• Undertake reviews of BMS items as and when requested and in an agreed timeframe.
• Ensure agreed deadlines on any objectives set and agreed are worked to.
• Assist HSEQ team members in fulfilling requirements on schemes they are allocated where required.
• Apply initiative in prioritising presence and input with allocated sites based on aspects such as complexities, performance, upcoming scope etc.
• Participate in supporting the business with regards to tenders and pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQ’s) and tender submissions, as requested.
• Attend and contribute within wider business initiatives.
• Attend and contribute in a manner that best presents the business at any client led initiatives, meetings etc. were requested by the Head of HSEQ.
• Actively monitor and utilise data to spot trends both local to schemes and wider sector/ business, working on initiative develop plans to bring solutions and betterment as required.
• Encourage as well as actively report and communicate within the HSEQ team structure.
• Undertake ‘HSEQ on-call’ duty in line as agreed with wider HSEQ team.
