Job Description

My client, a leading UK main contractor, are looking for an experienced Senior Planner – Industrial.

Reporting to the Head of Planning, the Senior Planner plays a key role in the successful delivery of Industrial warehouse construction
projects and tenders. They are responsible for independently managing a mixture of live project
work on sites and tender programming.

It involves a mixture of office and site-based role across multiple projects. Regular travel to sites / office.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Values


  • Demonstrate and actively promote the Company way and values, leading by example across projects and the wider business
  • Act as a role model within the planning team, embedding best practices and high standards
  • Support management in achieving business objectives and continuous improvement initiatives

Planning & Programme Management


  • Take full responsibility for multiple projects and tenders working independently
  • Produce fully detailed construction programmes using Asta Powerproject.
  • Ability to develop their own programmes without reliance on subcontractor input as required.
  • Challenge subcontractor programmes to ensure robustness, compliance, and alignment with project objectives
  • Contribute to the improvement of planning templates, systems and procedures

Tender Planning & Pre-Construction

  • Lead the planning function on tenders, ensuring all deliverables are completed to a high standard and within required timeframes
  • Produce Tender Programmes, pricing preliminaries, phasing diagrams, logistics strategies, and methodologies that meet or exceed client expectations
  • Develop Cost Plan Programmes to an appropriate level of detail in a timely manner
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and approaches to strengthen submissions

Project Monitoring & Control


  • Regularly assess site progress and produce independent internal planning monthly reports, coordinating closely with the Project Manager and site team
  • Identify programme risks and delays, advising on mitigation strategies
  • Track and analyse progress trends, ensuring proactive management of programme performance
  • Advise site teams on potential Extension of Time (EoT) events and where required produce programmes to clearly demonstrate entitlement and justification

Commercial & Change Management


  • Identify and assess the impact of variations on programme
  • Provide programme input into commercial discussions and claims
  • Ensure accurate programme representation of procurement and design status

Communication & Stakeholder Management


  • Maintain strong and proactive communication with line manager, escalating issues early and proposing solutions
  • Confidently present and defend programmes to senior management and clients
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, consultants, and project teams

Collaboration & Team Development


  • Demonstrate strong collaborative working across planning, pre-construction, operations, and commercial teams
  • Share knowledge, insights, and lessons learned across the wider business
  • Train, mentor, and develop Trainee and Assistant Planners as required
  • Actively seek feedback to improve personal and team performance

Continuous Improvement & Best Practice


  • Ensure high levels of accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail in all outputs
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in planning processes and deliverables
  • Gather and apply as-built data and lessons learned to improve future project performance

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced level experience in Asta Powerproject
  • Strong knowledge of construction – ideally in Industrial
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects independently
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of programme impacts
  • Proactive, solutions-focused approach with confidence in decision-making

Experience

  • Extensive experience in a planning role within industrial, logistics, or large-scale commercial construction
  • Proven experience leading planning on complex projects and tenders
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, JCT, or equivalent contracts
