The Role

My client, a leading UK main contractor, are looking for an experienced Project Manager.

They are looking for an experienced and driven Project Manager to join their delivery team, leading the successful execution of projects across our Civils and Infrastructure Sector.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will take overall responsibility for the planning, coordination, and delivery of projects, ensuring they are completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with programme, budget, and quality requirements.

The Project Manager will play a key role in leading project teams, managing Site Agents and delivery staff, and maintaining strong relationships with clients, commercial teams, the HSEQ department, design teams, planners and all associated stakeholders.

From project handover through to completion, the Project Manager will ensure effective collaboration across all parties, driving performance, managing risk, and promoting company values, behaviours, and culture throughout project delivery.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree / HNC / HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience
  • SMSTS
  • CSCS Card (Manager)
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Strong commercial and contractual awareness
  • Proven experience managing civil engineering or infrastructure projects (highways, earthworks, S278 or similar)
  • Experience working with developers, local authorities, or National Highways advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of contract conditions, specifications, and delivery processes
  • Good understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental legislation
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage projects, teams, and stakeholders
  • Commercial and financial management experience
  • Ability to lead and take full responsibility for project delivery

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with Health, Safety & Environmental legislation, company procedures, and best practice
  • Lead and promote a strong HSEQ culture across all projects
  • Ensure HSE Plans are in place, implemented, and maintained
  • Monitor HSE performance and intervene where required to maintain standards
  • Ensure incidents, near misses, and risks are managed and lessons learned are implemented
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with drawings, specifications, and contract requirements
  • Ensure quality management systems and Quality Plans are implemented across all projects
  • Monitor delivery standards to ensure right-first-time outcomes and minimise defects
  • Ensure Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) are in place and effectively managed
  • Review quality performance and drive corrective actions where required
  • Assume overall responsibility for the successful delivery of projects
  • Manage and lead Site Agents, Sub Agents, Engineers, and site teams
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to project delivery teams
  • Ensure effective coordination between construction, commercial, and design functions
  • Promote company values, behaviours, and culture across all teams
  • Ensure effective communication across all stakeholders
  • Develop and manage overall project programmes and delivery strategies
  • Oversee short-term planning and ensure alignment with project milestones
  • Monitor progress across all workstreams and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure adequate resourcing across projects, including labour, plant, and materials
  • Ensure the commercial performance of projects is maximised
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost control processes
  • Understand and administer contract conditions, specifications, and requirements
  • Identify, manage, and report variations, risks, and opportunities
  • Work closely with the commercial team on valuations, cost reporting, and final accounts
  • Oversee procurement strategy and subcontractor performance
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and supply chain partners
  • Lead client meetings and report on project performance and progress
  • Lead internal monthly progress reporting on all aspects of the project  
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and resolve issues effectively
  • Ensure project records, reporting, and documentation are accurate and maintained
  • Oversee preparation of handover documentation and project close-out
  • Ensure compliance with company management systems and procedures
  • Drive continuous improvement across projects, identifying efficiencies and innovation opportunities
  • Promote implementation of new technologies and modern construction methods
