Job Overview

My client, a leading UK main contractor, are looking for an experienced Commercial Manager.

They are looking to appoint an experienced Commercial Manager to join their growing Civils & Infrastructure team. Reporting to the Head of Commercial, you will take overall responsibility for the commercial performance of a portfolio of civils and infrastructure projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, profitably and in line with contractual obligations. You will provide commercial leadership across multiple schemes, working closely with operational teams, clients and senior stakeholders to drive performance, maximise profitability and support the continued growth of the business. This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading Tier 1 contractor delivering major infrastructure projects across the Midlands.

The Role

The Commercial Manager will lead the commercial function across multiple projects, providing strategic direction while ensuring commercial best practice is maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

You will manage and develop commercial teams, oversee financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and play a key role in delivering successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the commercial management of multiple civils and infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and implement commercial strategies to maximise profitability.
  • Manage CVRs, forecasting, cashflow and financial reporting.
  • Oversee budgets and monitor commercial performance across projects.
  • Manage NEC, JCT and ICC contracts, ensuring contractual compliance.
  • Lead subcontract procurement, negotiations and supply chain management.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks, opportunities and change control.
  • Oversee valuations, final accounts and cash collection.
  • Provide commercial support during pre-construction, tender reviews and bid submissions.
  • Lead, mentor and develop Managing Quantity Surveyors, Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Support dispute resolution and provide contractual advice where required.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, governance and commercial controls.
  • Drive continuous improvement and commercial best practice across the business.

Experience & Qualifications


The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
  • Extensive commercial management experience within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractor.
  • Strong background delivering Civils & Infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects and leading commercial teams.
  • Excellent knowledge of NEC, JCT and ICC contracts.
  • Strong financial management, forecasting and commercial reporting experience.
  • Experience managing subcontract procurement and commercial risk.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial management systems.
  • MRICS or MCIOB (desirable).
